Discover train travel it can be very cheap and convenient

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Train travel is a great way to save money allowing

you to take a more stress free vacation. It`s a lot

cheaper than air travel or traveling by car because the

ticket price is not directly related to the price of gas.

cheap train travelTrain travel is also much more suitable and hassle-free.

Rail travel discounts are available everywhere for people that travel by

train. Pretty much all students, seniors and veterans receive

discounts. AAA members get 10% off. Children (ages

2-15) pay half price and one infant (0-2 years of age) per

adult is free.

In addition to the many discounts offered, miles are earned

each time you travel by train. These miles can be redeemed

not only for free train travel, but also for free airfare.

Amtrak, the major train company, also has a credit card that

allows members to earn additional miles on all the purchases

they make using that card.

Travel by train can be much more well-situated than flying.

Check-in is a great deal faster at train stations than

airports. There is no security to pass through. You just

show that the name on your train ticket matches the name on

your ID, if asked.

Train stations are conveniently located in the middle of the

city, not on the edge like airports. This helps cut down on

cab fare to your favorite destination.

When purchasing train fare, keep in mind that the price can

vary between locations, so check the price from nearby

cities to your destination. It may be cheaper to drive a

little ways and catch a train from another city.

The price to travel by train also varies greatly by the

accommodations chosen and services provided during train

travel. It is harder to purchase regular coach seating in

the summer, and around Thanksgiving and Christmas. These

seats are usually booked well in advance. You can also

choose from first-class seating, business-class seating and

a variety of sleeping accommodations. Some of these rooms

have showers and food provided. For other accommodations,

food can be purchased on most trains.

Consider train travel this summer. Statistically it’s much

safer than driving. It can be a relaxing and peaceful ride,

accompanied by beautiful scenery. Also, the price can be

much more affordable than air travel or car travel.

How I Find Affordable Vacations

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Even in this day and age of computers, technology, and advanced last-minute deals, finding great vacation packages can be a challenge. The problem lies in the offer. May this hasn’t happened to you, but a lot of times I cannot find the offer that was tempting me to click on the ad in the first place. So what happened? The travel agency really thought I wanted to go to Lincoln Nebraska, not Las Vegas, Nevada? Or I really wanted to pay $900, that’s OK, even if the ad said $99? Are sneaky ads just trying to lure us in so they can get us all excited and then hit us with the real vacation cost? Don’t be surprised if that getaway deal you received by email doesn’t even come close to what you expected.

Spring break was a good example . With spring comes oodles of spring-breakers looking for an ..

GPS Systems, Why They Are Handy

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Gone are the days where a person had to use a paper travel map in order to find out how to get from one place to another. Now there is new technology called GPS systems, or global positioning systems. These devices, which have been used by the military for many years have recently become popular with the public. These are electronic devices that come in different forms, from handheld models to display models that are mounted or even a permanent fixture of some newer cars.

These devices, which are controlled by satellite, work by punching in a starting address and the final destination address. Once that information is put into the GPS, the GPS will guide the person step by step, turn by turn until the person has arrived at his or her destination. Some GPS systems will actually talk to you and tell you exactly where to turn and when, ..

Image via WikipediaPersonally, my wife and myself love to travel and in another year we will be living to travel as we will both be retired.

Travel has become a large part of the North American way of life. Many Canadian and American people rely on travel for their business as the world is becoming a smaller place and most companies are either national or international businesses. Other people travel for pleasure, and enjoy it above other forms of recreation.

With so many places to travel, both in the United States, Canada and across the world for that matter, planning a trip may become an overwhelming process for some people who are not well versed in traveling. This is where help is essential.

Most people know where they would like to go, the problem is how to get there and what to do and where to go once they arrive at their travel ..

Travel wallets

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

When you go on vacation, it’s likely you’ll buy traveler’s checks to take along for ready cash when you want to pay for goods or services outside of your own area, where personal checks won’t be accepted. Some companies issue traveler’s checks with a 24-hour replacement guarantee should they be lost. At today’s breakneck speed of life, even 24 hours can put a big damper on your plans. A lost credit card can be a catastrophe, as you may spend considerable time with necessary notifications and waiting to receive a replacement. Loss of cash is irretrievable. So what can you do to protect yourself against such losses so you can just enjoy your vacation?

Experienced travelers find travel wallets, also known as money belts, to be an excellent and convenient solution. Travel wallets are made of tough but lightweight materials like nylon and fit around your waist in a comfortable and inconspicuous manner. The front portion of the travel wallet is usually about four inches in height, with a sturdy zipper which opens and closes easily but securely. At each end of the zippered compartment, thin but strong nylon straps are used to secure the belt around your waist, in lengths adequate for a one size fits all travel wallet.

Travel wallets are designed to be of sufficient size to comfortably accommodate passports, driver’s licenses, cash, credit cards and traveler’s checks with ease.

These travel wallets are intended to be worn under your street clothing and are thus not visible to pickpockets and other thieves looking for a target. Worn with pants or skirt and a sweater, travel wallets are both easily concealed and accessible. If wearing a dress, simply fit it around your waistline and tie a colorful scarf on as a belt on top.

You may suppose that travel wallets would be awkward to use and access, but this is not the case. Ask anyone who’s used one and they’ll tell you what a wonderful and essential piece of travel gear the travel wallet provides. They’ll also assure you that, due to their ingenious construction, all the valuables mentioned above do indeed fit comfortably. After a day or so, you won’t even notice it’s there.

In some countries, the use of money clips is considered gauche and crass, besides the obvious disadvantage of alerting every pickpocket in sight to your wad of cash. You can carry coins and a few small denomination bills in your pocket, convenient for bus change and the like, but pickpockets and thieves are looking for better pickings!

Travel wallets are available from travel agents and travel web sites in a few neutral colors you find best for your needs, and are quite inexpensive, running between $8 - $12 on average. Read the product description, looking for indications of quality construction. Buying one of these wallets is one of the cheapest and best insurance policies you can take on the road. Happy traveling!

How To Plan A Romantic Yet Affordable Honeymoon

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Getting married is one of the biggest moments in anyone’s life. It’s the harmonious union of two people in honeymoonlove. However, that love can quickly start to fizzle if the honeymoon is too costly and turns into a travel nightmare.

Anytime you travel or attempt to book travel plans, there is the possibility of something going wrong. And when you’re traveling for the first time as a married couple, you want your getaway to be as enjoyable and trouble-free as possible.

If you’re getting married soon and want to book a romantic AND trouble-free honeymoon to an international destination without leaving you broke, you need to think ahead and establish your travel budget, choose your destination carefully, and find international travel deals.

Establish Your Honeymoon Travel Budget

One thing that many couples don’t do before they start planning their honeymoon is establish what they can afford to spend on the trip.

When dealing with international travel, travel expenses such as international airfare, car rentals, hotel rooms, and other items can add up very quickly. And since it’s a honeymoon rather than a student travel trip, you don’t want to end up staying in a hostel because you ran out of money.

So, before you even select a destination, establish exactly how much you have to spend on all items involved in your honeymoon.

This includes meals, travel expenses, souvenirs, and any other high-priced items. Remember, traveling internationally can be costly; so if you don’t want to end up sleeping on a park bench on your honeymoon, establish your travel budget before you choose a destination.

Choose Your Honeymoon Destination Wisely

Once you have established your honeymoon travel budget, the next step is to choose your destination. When selecting a honeymoon destination, it’s a good idea to first list what activities you’d like to do. Are youdestination1 interested in scuba diving?

Do you want to visit museums? If so, what types of museums? After you’ve created your list, compare it to your spouse’s list; see what activities you both have in common, and create a final list.

After your list is finalized, decide when you’re going to go. The time of year you travel will dictate what countries/cities you can visit to complete as many items on your list as possible. For example, if you want to layout on the beach every day during your honeymoon, but you’re getting married in February, you want to find a honeymoon destination that is sunny and warm in February.

The key to choosing the ideal honeymoon destination is selecting a location that satisfies your travel activities, offers the optimal climate to complete those activities, and is within your travel budget.

Find International Travel Deals

Most newly wed couples don’t have a fortune to spend on their honeymoon. However, many couples still want to have a honeymoon that’s exotic, international, and romantic. So the solution to having the most romantic, yet affordable honeymoon possible is to find international travel deals.

The Internet is a great place to look for international travel deals and discounts on airfare.

Discounted travel rates and cheap airfare deals can be found online on travel web sites and through online travel consolidators, like cFares. These travel sites contract with the different airlines and use airfare search engine technology to get the best international travel deals on flights around the world. So if you’re looking for a way to save a bundle on your honeymoon, search the Internet for international travel deals.
