All the fun of a trip to Wales

Think of Wales, and what images do you see in your mind’s eye? What I see are: rugged mountainous regions, rolling hills and of course the sheep grazing in the valleys. Wales retains a charm and beauty that is rare in a world where natural landscapes are disappearing. It may explain why 13 milliion people have visited in a year!

Wales as a holiday destination has a little something for everyone – historic castles, open spaces and an array of adventure sports to suit any level. Another fascinating option when considering things to do in Wales, is exploring the ancient mines and caves litter the hillsides.

The history of Wales has been dramatic and rich, with conflicts and battles and royal misdemeanours. There are 641 castles in this small country, built about 1000 years ago which display a range of ancient and modern styles of archetecture. The castle at Beaumaris on Anglessey, for example, started construction in the 13th century and is a classic example of the architecture of the medieval British military. Wales also has many chuches and abbey, as well as its medieval castles most of which are available to the public to visit. While you take in all the historical atmosphere, you could visit one of the 320 or so art galleries at your disposal or the National museum to savour the culture.

If checking out Welsh history is not your idea of perfect holidays in Wales, there is plenty of scope for indulging in all sorts of adventure sports. Activities are abundant here and range from cycling, walking, surfing and canoeing.

The ideal holiday though, is one that will allow you to set your own pace. Cottages in Wales are the perfect location for a lazy vacation when you decide to do as little or as much as you fancy. A cottage, unlike a hotel, lets you make your own decisions and plans and removes the need to worry about other people and their habits. It’s one of the best ways to enjoy some quality time with the family and friends, away from the bustle of daily life.
