Friday, July 31st, 2009

Baltimore is a diverse and exciting place to visit. It is rich in culture and history. Baltimore is also a place of “firsts” For instance; In 1774 William Goddard started the first Post Office System in the US in Baltimore. Here is where the first hot air balloon was designed by Peter Carnes and the first flight was made by 13 year old Edward Warren in 1784. The Baltimore Water Company was the first one in the US and was started in 1792.

If you are looking for some sports activities you have come to the right place. In Baltimore you can find almost everything from Biking to Golf. If you are a horse racing fan you can visit the Pimlico Race Course. When most people think of baseball that think of the Baltimore Orioles and you can see them play at Camden Yards. The Orioles have been around since 1955 and their ballpark is modern and comfortable to watch a game at. If you are a NFL football fan you can watch the Baltimore Ravens play at PSINet Stadium.

If you are looking for a relaxing place to walk, skate or for biking, you can visit the Baltimore & Annapolis Trail which is just 20 miles south of Baltimore. Vacation at Carolina Beach

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Carolina Beach is located along the southern end of North Carolina, it is located peacefully along the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. While its location near the water allows for lots of beach and water activities, the city has much more to offer than the typical oceanfront town. Travel to Carolina Beach for a fun weekend or a weeklong retreat, you will not feel like going back home. Stay at one of the Carolina Beach hotels while visiting here.

There are many exciting water sports and activities that you will be waiting for you in this marina. One popular activity is deep-sea fishing aboard a charter boat for tuna, mackerel, marlin, and sailfish. At the Municipal docks you’ll find the Blue Marlin Fishing Charters, they specialize in tuna fishing.

A great place for an enjoyable swimming experience is the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, on Pleasure Island. You can stroll the beach and search for shells and make your way into the cool, refreshing water at your own leisure. Here you can discover some of the wildlife, including endangered species such as the loggerhead sea turtle.

When you want to walk along the mainland, Carolina Beach offers one of the few remaining boardwalks on the east coast. Filled with boutique shops, nightclubs, restaurants, and live entertainment venues, this waterfront district is the place to go when you are looking for daytime or nighttime adventures. To explore this area and the surrounding beachfront, try a bicycle rental for one or several people and cruise around at a leisurely pace as you enjoy the vews.

For Carolina Beach NC accommodations that are convenient to the Atlantic Ocean, its sparkling beaches, and the bustling boardwalk, look into Carolina Beach motels for your next trip. Stroll to the boardwalk for a round of miniature golf or head out the door for the short walk to the beach. At the end of the day, you can retreat to your air-conditioned Carolina beach hotel room.

The Best Skateboard Footwear

Friday, July 31st, 2009

When skateboarding first hit the streets many people said that it was a fad. A craze that simply would not last. They couldn’t have been more wrong.

Today there are many millions of skateboarders worldwide. Many towns today have their own skate parks and if they don’t then skateboarders will have built one for themselves.

Skateboaring experts can make it look so easy and graceful, which can be misleading. Skateboarding takes a whole lot of skill and can be immensely dangerous. As skateboarding has grown in popularity so the number of skateboard injuries has increased. Statistics show that some of the most common skateboard injuries are fractures to the ankle and wrist. Over a third of all injuries occur as a result of loss of balance and around 26% occur as a result of a failed trick attempt. The highest proportion of moderate injuries occur as a result of surface irregularities.

Statistics like these should tell any skater that safety must always come first. Skateboarders should skate only in skate parks to avoide hazardous uneven surfaces and they should always wear protective clothing. A good helmet along with some elbow and knee pads will go a long way toward protecting skaters from many common falls and scrapes. But footwear is of utmost importance.

Some foolish people think that any old pair of trainers will do for skateboarding, but this is far from true. Skateboarding subjects shoe to a real bashing, probably some of the most arduous wear and tear that any shoes are ever likely to receive. They need to be exceptionally comfortable, enormously flexible and very grippy. They also need to offer protection for the ankle and support the instep.

Skateboarding shoes need to be extremely tough. They will be subjected to lots of stress, scuffing and abrasion which will quickly make flimsy shoes fall apart. Many skaters use a produce called shoe goo, available from many good skate shops, to apply to worn areas of their shoes in order to give them a little extra life.

One of the most important features of skateboarding shoes is the sole. These tend to be flat, with a large surface area, made from extremely tough material that provides a lot of essential grip with the skateboard.

There are many excellent skate shoes on the market today, another indication of how huge the sport has become. One of the favoured brands is Vans shoes. They’ve been around since the early days so they have the knowledge necessary to make some truly fantastic shoes.

Another reliable brand is DC Shoes from the USA. They too have been making top quality skate shoes for many years and there are some fantastic styles in their collection.

No discussion of top brand skate shoes would really be complete without mentioning Nike shoes. The Nike air trainers are favourites with many of the world’s top board jockeys.

Skateboarding is a great sport but skaters need to take precautions in order to keep themselves, and those around them, safe. Some good protective clothing and some robust, comfortable skate shoes will help to keep them safe.
